There was chaos and drama at the elections held on 20th June 2012 at the Blue Springs Hotel in Nairobi as the existing leadership of Music Copyright Society of Kenya tried to block artistes from being part of the leadership. A huge turn out of artistes at the elections was witnessed in support of their fellows who were running for seats at the new MCSK Foundation and Budget committees which were forced to MCSK after they were re-registered by the law.
Artistes showed uncommon unity and it was amazing how they stood their ground until they got their way. Eventually, Frasha & Mongolo were elected to the budget committee and the foundation respectively. Initially, there were 4 artistes interested in the posts but two of them, Nonini and Didge pulled out in support of their colleagues.
This is a win for the artistes as they will be directly involved in the affairs of the society which basically is meant to take care of their welfare.
“This was great and I have mad respect for Nonini and Didge for the leadership they showed by stepping down for myself and Mongolo so that we can go into this together. We can only change the industry if we are involved and this is the first step” Frasha said speaking to Niaje.
